The Seppeltsfield Estate was established in 1851, by Joseph Seppelt, fleeing turmoil in his native Silesia he purchased a beautiful property in the Barossa Valley, and in true Silesian fashion, named it after himself – Seppeltsfield. He decided to plant vines. Thus was born the village you see today. Over the years many activities and industries found a sympathetic home at Seppeltsfield. As new owners our vision is to revive the Seppeltsfield Village based around the unique and irreplaceable Seppeltsfield fortified wine collection.
The heart of Seppeltsfield is the unique collection of fortified wines slowly maturing in oak barrels, and dating back in an unbroken line to 1878. We believe our range to be the most comprehensive of any fortified “house” in the world, encompassing traditional European fortified styles- principally “port” and “sherry” styles- but with an Australian twist- the grapes we use for port style wines are traditionally the same as those which make the great Barossa dry reds- i.e. Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (Mourvèdre), and as such are quite distinctively different from those made in Portugals’s wonderful Douro Valley.
