Penna Lane Wines

Penna Lane wines is located in the Skilly Hills, adjacent to the Spring Gully Conservation Park.

When purchased by Ray and Lynette Klavins in 1993, the property was covered weeds, truckloads of rubbish, and consisted of a derelict dairy/shearing shed and an equally ancient, tumbled down piggery. But …. it was in a wonderful location, had fabulous views and would grow good grapes. It just needed huge amounts of work.

Over the next few years, roads went in, vines were planted, a house was built and the old dairy was transformed into a cellar door, which opened auspiciously at the beginning of the new millennium.

The first wines under the Penna Lane label were produced in 1998 following a partnership with fellow Roseworthy graduate Stephen Stafford-Brookes.

In its relatively short lifespan this winemaking partnership has received numerous accolades including:
  • Advertiser/Hyatt South Australian Wine of the Year 2002
  • Australian Best Boutique Riesling 2003
  • ‘Winestate’ Magazine Australasian Wine of the Year 2007
  • 5 star rating from James Halliday 2008
  • 2 wines in Halliday’s ‘Best of the Best’ lists
plus lots of gold medals and many flattering wine writers’ comments.

Cellar door has expanded to provide vineyard platters featuring home baked bread and estate made condiments. These are designed to be shared by two or more. They are served on the sheltered verandah in a picturesque setting adjacent to the vineyard.

From very humble beginnings and an initial production of only 450 cases Penna Lane has grown to distribute along Australia’s eastern seaboard and to the USA, Hong Kong & Korea.

A tremendously supportive customer base has been established and the cellar door has become a busy little hub, particularly on weekends.

Penna lane is open Thursday- Sunday & public holidays 11-5pm
